Olio United, Happy Birthday 9/4/2008

I had the honor of photographing Olio United’s 1st Birthday this past Friday. More than just a boutique, Olio is a team of passionate people with a purpose.
“Quite honestly, we don’t believe the world needed another retail
store…it needed one with a better purpose. At Olio United, we share
stories.”
Check out their story here.
In celebration, Olio hosted a TOMS Shoes Silent Auction & Entermodal Pop-Up Factory with 100% of the proceeds going to Transitions Cambodia. My friend Leah from TOMS had me come photograph the event.

Here are Cathy & Korinne of Olio (and Katie in the middle).

Here’s Leah Albertson - check out this photo from a shoot we did back in May down in Marina Del Ray.

Here’s Leah and I (she’s a TOMS’r… and my friend!) - crazy that I can take photos with out using my hands! (thanks to Olio Cathy for that one)

…. and of course, check out the slideshow with more images.

Our New Rad Albums!! 9/3/2008

Many of you that we’ve met with lately have heard us talking about our new and upcoming albums that have been in the works… well we’re super pumped to announce that we will be working with Couture Books to produce some sweet albums that allow us to really showcase the images we create for our clients in an unbelievable way!

As if the albums and papers weren’t fantastic enough, we take comfort in knowing that the pages are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper, the covers are made from earth friendly materials, and the process of creating these books is powered by the wind and is completely carbon-neutral! Also, 5% of the proceeds are going towards replanting, reforesting, purchasing offsetting carbon credits. We love the nice clean modern design using organic materials. Some of the stats that made us think:
Producing 1000 books will generate environmental benefits equivalent to:
- Not driving 7070 miles in an average automobile
- 135.74 trees preserved for the future
- 57,661 gallons of wastewater flow saved
Create yours with us today and start saving the world with us one beautiful album at a time!!

Images of the sample pages we designed and had printed for color, quality and calibration.

One Light Workshop Portland 8/21/2008

For the second year now, Gabe and I have been honored to host Zack Arias‘ OneLight Workshop. Last year we hosted the workshop in Seattle - I have to say the Portland crowd really stepped up to the plate and blew my expectations out of the water.
First off, we had 45-50+ photographers show up to the mixer (our pre-workshop party) Tuesday evening. The workshop itself went till 1am both nights…. yes I said both nights. We had an intense double header OneLight week.
Our venue this year was completely gorgeous; including a bear skin rug, Eames chairs and the works. Thank you to Chris, Jono, & Aaron at Parliament Design for graciously inviting us into their space.

… yes, that’s Shannon Sewell- I somehow talked her into stepping over to the other side of the camera and she nailed it.

In the back there with the black hat is Mike - he works for B&H (the worlds largest camera store in NY!) and goes to workshops to answer questions and hook people up with gear! He got me plugged into a drobo… beautiful…. drobo stands for Data Robot! So yes, now I have my own data robot! … what should I name him?

Zack has wolverine claws like Logan.

Below is Jessica Hill rockin’ the 60″ shoot through.

… this was a quick two light set up using a ring light on camera and a 20 degree grid on Gabe in the background. Oh yeah, Gabe rocked it as our model for part of the second day. Isaac Koval also GQ’d us in front of the camera.

This shot of Parrish was something I set up and snapped during our free time to try out our one light knowledge on our own.

If you were at the Mixer or the Workshop drop us a comment so we can get your email address!

Stephanie & Matt | Engagement Session 8/21/2008

E-sessions are so rad! We shot this sesh right downtown Bellevue, just out side of Bellevue Place where Matt & Stephanie had their first date at a nearby restaurant. Apparently he was wearing his hottest outfit which included a sweet orange sweater… their second date was shopping for some new clothes for him!!! Yikes! Gabe and I are pumped for shooting their wedding out on Orcas Island this weekend!

Matt & Elise’s Culver Oregon Wedding 8/19/2008

Once again I’ve had the privilege of photographing a childhood friend’s wedding. And just to show how cool we were back in the day, check out this photo below of our crew. Yes… Matt’s the one with the weird pink puff ball at the top. Yours truly is the one with the sweet puffy flat top in the middle (that was my favorite shirt - it had a shark on it and a lot of neon green spots).
Looks like Matt’s grown up a bit since then…

Potato Head love… kudos to the groomsmen.

Their wedding was a gorgeous farm wedding surrounded by 750 acres of fields.

Chanel 8/15/2008

We shoot a handful of senior photos every year. Chanel came to me looking for something that isn’t your typical senior photo so I was pretty stoked to set something up with her. This shoot started by grabbing a coffee at Ken’s with Chanel and my awesome assistant for this shoot, Jennifer Schmidt (a friend through flickr). We had to wait for the rain to let off a little which gave us a chance to talk a bit more about the shoot. Twelve ounces later we were wandering down NW 21st Ave to hit up a few clutch spots and then eventually over to the Pearl District to finish up with shooting inside of Sip N Kranz.

By the way, this shot (above) was taken at f1.2 @ 1/2000 with a 580exII coming a bit from the left.

OneLight Workshop Portland 8/7/2008
OneLight Portland is almost here! The Wednesday sesh is completely full & Thursday (Aug 14) will be filling up soon. Get on it quick like if you’ve been procrastinating on registration.
But for now I’m here to let you know about the Mixer going down next week Tuesday night (Aug 12). It’s gonna be a great time to meet and chat with other local photographers and also get to know the other folks who will be attending the workshop. We’re inviting every single local photographer (workshop attendee or not) so don’t be shy. When I moved down here my friend Jim told me that Portland has the most photographers per capita, so I know there’s a lot of you out there. We’ll have some food and drinks - give me a call if you need more info.
Leave a comment to let us know you’re coming!
